The BACARDI® Scorpion is our version of the Scorpion first served at Trader Vic's, the legendary Polynesian restaurant chain that's still going strong. Like the Mai Tai, another popular Trader Vic drink, the BACARDI® Scorpion features the delectable almond syrup Orgeat. If you've ever tried the nutty-milky Spanish beverage “horchata”, well Orgeat is a not-too-distant relative. It even sounds sort of similar if you say them together. Anyway, Orgeat started out as a milk substitute back in the days before refrigeration was invented. To solve the problem of milk souring too quickly, people would use a milky mixture of barley or almonds with water instead. Fortunately, since the era of the fridge, Orgeat has become sweeter and thicker, making it the perfect accompaniment to BACARDI® Superior Rum.
